Mind Spark #35: Always Be Capturing

Some of the most valuable insights come quietly, usually when I’m not even trying to find them.
Lately, I’ve been thinking about a simple phrase: “Always Be Capturing,” by Shane Thomas, an agribusiness strategist.
It reminds me to notice what sticks with me, like an instant thought, a line from a book, a podcast, a conversation, or a meeting. Every moment can teach us something if we pay attention.
At work, it means noticing patterns, asking good questions, and connecting ideas that others might overlook. In our personal lives, it’s about being present, learning from everyday moments, reflecting on our interactions, and letting our experiences shape us.
When we notice and hold on to more thoughts, signals, emotions, and insights, we start to understand our work, ourselves, and the world more deeply. Over time, this quiet habit transforms learning into wisdom and everyday moments into meaning.
This is how many of my posts start: not with an opinion, but with something I noticed and couldn’t let go of, and something I want to write and share, just like this one. Writing helps me hold onto those fragments a bit longer to see what they might become.
Shane has other mantras that have stayed with me, for example,
“If you don’t have a brand, then you are a commodity”.
I encourage you to read them and see if they resonate with you. They promote slow thinking and honest self-reflection.
What quiet insight has been following you lately, waiting to be captured?
